<p>Fans of ceramics, glass, jewellery, textile, wood, furniture, silver and fine metal work are likely to enjoy a visit to this event.</p>

<p>Several new features are appearing this year, including <em>On Screen</em>, a film programme exploring the mediation between craft and moving image. Four organisations – Animate Projects, Ateliers d’Art, Crafts magazine, and onedotzero – are presenting a daily programme of films that document skills and processes, makers and their working environments and explores how craft skills contribute to the making of film and animation.</p>

<p><em>On View</em> showcases cutting-edge textiles presented in partnership with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. <em>Collection </em>is a selection of 11 objects from the Crafts Council’s permanent collection including recent acquisitions. The display includes Tomoko Azumi’s ‘Table=Chest’, Geoffrey Mann’s ‘Crossfire Teapot’ and Michael Eden’s ‘Wedgwoodn’t Tureen’.</p>

<p>The programme launched in May as <em>Connectors</em>, a selling exhibition of contemporary design &#8220;with a manifesto predicated on forging bonds with contemporary artists through a greater understanding of process, medium and ethos.&#8221;</p>

<p>The programme has transitioned from selling exhibition to &#8216;proper shop,&#8217; including product and furniture design while incorporating artist&#8217;s multiples, prints, photography, artist&#8217;s books, and independently published journals.</p>

<p>Part 1: &#8216;Thin Black Lines&#8217;, a series of bent, solid, tubular steel works can be seen at the Saatchi Gallery (pictured here).</p>
<p>Part 2: &#8216;Blurry White Surfaces&#8217;, gives the audience a perception of Nendo&#8217;s design ethos with the inclusion of recent pieces such as Cord Chair and Fade-Out Chair.</p>

<p>Nendo, which means Japanese for clay, was founded in 2002 by Oki Sato, the same year that he received his M.A. in architecture. Since then Nendo has been prolific, completing an astonishing number of projects in architecture, interior, product and graphic design.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/home/" target="_blank">Crafts Council</a>&#8216;s annual art fair for contemporary objects &#8211; <a href="http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/collect/" target="_blank">COLLECT</a> &#8211; is taking place at the <a href="http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/" target="_blank">Saatchi Gallery</a>. Over 300 artists are exhibiting works with representative galleries from around the world.<span id="more-1100"></span></p>

<p>COLLECT 2010 presents both established artists and new talent, covering all disciplines: ceramics, glass, jewellery, silver and fine metalwork, textiles, and wood and furniture.</p>

<p>Participating London galleries include <a href="http://www.caa.org.uk/" target="_blank">Contemporary Applied Arts</a>, <a href="http://www.electrumgallery.co.uk/" target="_blank">Electrum Gallery</a>, <a href="http://www.adriansassoon.com/" target="_blank">Adrian Sassoon</a>, <a href="http://www.cockpitarts.com/index.php" target="_blank">Cockpit Arts</a>, and <a href="http://www.flowgallery.co.uk/" target="_blank">Flow</a>.</p>

<p>Furthermore, Seven emerging artists have created an installation in the windows of six local retailers, each working with the retail brand in mind. Called <a href="http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/collect/now/view/collect-trail/?list_p=1" target="_blank">COLLECT TRAIL</a>, retailers include Designers Guild, Cath Kidston, David Mellor, Osborne &amp; Little, and TASCHEN.</p>
<p>Also worth checking out is satellite show &#8211; <a href="http://www.vesselgallery.com/blog/?p=270" target="_blank">The Great Glass Exhibition</a> &#8211; at <a href="http://www.thomasgoode.co.uk/" target="_blank">Thomas Goode &amp; Co</a> in Mayfair.</p>
