The exclusively curated selection includes original works such as Watch Sculptures by Dominic Wilcox, Push + Pivot Rings by Bethan Laura Woods, and hand-painted graphic t-shirts, prints and accessories by DavidDavid.

London based designer Martino Gamper has curated a special Martino and Friends section especially for the shop. Gamper has made a bespoke shelving unit to display his selection. Highlights from the Martino and Friends section include Francis Upritchard’s hand painted Christmas cards and wrapping paper, jewellery from Gemma Holt and Rob Upritchard, and a set of drinking glasses with carafe from Martino Gamper.

Other talents included in the pop-up include Max Lamb, Michael Anastassiades, Tauba Auerbach, Faye Toogood, Snarkitecture, Brunno Jahara, Humans Since 1982, Pia Wustenberg, Victoria Wilmotte, Jonathan Muecke, Oeuffice, and Ben Adams.

Following the debut success of The Temporium last year, the temporary Christmas emporium returns to London this Christmas. Purchase design items by a variety of new and established designers and brands in this Covent Garden pop-up shop, presented by Dezeen.

Over 20 different stalls are selling unique gifts and products direct to the public. The theme this year is “24 days of Christmas” and each day a different product is being featured in the store, creating an advent calendar of designer gifts.

Highlights include a selection of glassware and porcelain curated by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon (above); a special edition War Bowl by Dominic Wilcox (below); and a limited edition Christmas product by Paul Cocksedge.

The Christmas tree is decorated with special red and white cycle lights by Swedish designers Bookman while delicious festive take-away snacks are provided by Pom Pom Takoyaki. A festive window display created by Frama is featuring dozens of Diamond Lights designed by Eric Therner (below).

Other designers involved include cult jewellery designers Fiona Paxton, Paperself (whose eccentric paper eyelashes were one of the biggest hits last year), a new UK-based lighting and furniture brand working with Australian designers called Matilda and leading design retailer Theo (below) alongside many, many more.

“When it comes to the world’s leading furniture brands, Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen would have to be near the top of the list. Established in 1872 in Copenhagen by its namesake, a cabinetmaker, the business quickly won favour within the country’s prestigious interiors industry. In the 1930s, the company invested its knowhow in steam-bending beech, which soon became their speciality and gave rise to the Ant chair in 1934, followed in 1958 by the instant classic Series 7 chair, both by Arne Jacobsen. The business has enjoyed considerable growth since the midcentury, and continues to produce many of the 20th century’s most iconic furniture designs.

Surprisingly, Fritz Hansen has never had a dedicated London retail space. In September 2011, however, the brand joined forces with their strongest champion, the retailer Skandium, to open a store that…”

British furniture brand – Case Furniture – has its very own showroom in South London’s Clapham area. The showroom is the only place in the UK to showcase the entire Case collection of good quality, well-priced designs.

Case was established in 2006 with the mission to keep good accessible design alive. Rather than creating furniture to shout about, they make furniture with which people will actually want to live, favouring woods and gently contemporary forms.

Case works with a number of leading designers including Shin Azumi, Marina Bautier, Matthew Hilton, Bethan Gray, Nazanin Kamali, Sam Wilkinson, William Warren and the late Robin Day.

The showroom is open on weekdays only, from 9am-6pm.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has opened a stand alone, off-site bookshop – V&A Reading Rooms – which also incorporates a wine bar, enabling customers to read and shop with a glass in hand.

V&A READING ROOMS

The Reading Rooms stock a changing range of over 1,000 book titles covering the topics of fashion, design, architecture, photography, graphics and art as well as biographies, fiction and history.

Out of print, vintage and early editions are also for sale, as well as the V&A’s own list of over 120 art and design books.

The space is small and intimate, retaining the original architectural features of high ceilings, fine cornices and bay windows. David Collins Studio advised the V&A on the interior design with Lucy Woodward creating the graphics in response to the V&A brand.

Behind the menu is Duncan Ackery who has put together an edited range of wines and delicious snacks, which have all been chosen for easy consumption while reading.

The V&A Reading Rooms are open daily, from midday until 10pm.

Leading auction house, Phillips de Pury & Company, has got in on the ‘pop-up’ act with Projectory, its second such installment of contemporary design at its top-floor space at The Saatchi Gallery.

The programme launched in May as Connectors, a selling exhibition of contemporary design “with a manifesto predicated on forging bonds with contemporary artists through a greater understanding of process, medium and ethos.”

The programme has transitioned from selling exhibition to ‘proper shop,’ including product and furniture design while incorporating artist’s multiples, prints, photography, artist’s books, and independently published journals.

Many of the works are one-offs, prototypes, or limited editions exclusive to Phillips de Pury.

Projectory includes talents such as Bertjan Pot, Max Lamb, Massimiliano Adami, Nendo, Peter Marigold, Raw Edges, Seongyong Lee, Mark Braun, and Michel Charlot.

No end date has been announced for Projectory, but we have been promised that it will remain open until after Christmas.

Tom Dixon opens the doors to its first shop, in a converted Wharf Building at Portobello Dock, Ladbroke Grove. The former Victorian goods depot is now home to the full Tom Dixon range of lighting and furniture as well as a selection of work from other international designers and brands.

Premiering for the first time in the UK is the Tom Dixon Etch collection, a digitally manufactured brass pendant light and candle-holder. Inspired by the logic of pure maths, Etch is made using an industrial process that allows for intricate patterns to be cut directly onto the metal.

The designer Tom Dixon has handpicked a number of designers from around the globe to premier their work at  this space. The concession brands will alternate quarterly throughout the year to add variety to this retail destination. The first group of concessions include acclaimed Dutch designer, Piet Hein Eek, who is showing his scrap-wood cabinet collection.

A dedicated materials library opens within the shop, available to professionals looking for reference and inspiration for architectural and interior design projects.

Lunch, dinner and tea is served at the newly-expanded Dock Kitchen where chef Stevie Parle cooks carefully sourced, honest food overlooking the Grand Union Canal. The kitchen has relaunched as a permanent 80-seater restaurant designed by Design Research Studio. The new concept includes a deli, take-away coffee bar and private dining room.

Dutch design brand moooi opens the doors to its first permanent showroom and UK headquarters in London, housed within a Grade II listed stucco house dating back to the late 1800s, and most recently home to Virgin.

moooi was founded in 2001 by designer Marcel Wanders and entrepreneur Casper Vissers. The brand was named after their native Dutch word for beautiful – the third ‘o’ stands for an extra value in terms of beauty and uniqueness.

moooi has worked with some of the world’s leading designers, including Jurgen Bey, Bertjan Pot, Jasper Morrison, Ross Lovegrove, Front, Studio Job, Maarten Baas, and Nika Zupanc.

moooi has always taken pride in producing timeless furniture, lighting, and accessories which possess the character of antiques combined with the freshness of modern times.

This London showroom is part of The Dock, a development comprising the showrooms and offices of various design companies including Tom Dixon.

SHOWstudio, the online fashion broadcasting company, has established a gallery-cum-shop featuring artifacts from renowned designers and photographers – items that were originally unveiled in iconic fashion shoots and catwalks.

The space is curated by Nick Knight, the photographer and director of the original SHOWstudio website. The ever-changing exhibits are all items that were captured on camera by contemporary photographers whose imagery stands alongside the objects.

In addition, a live studio set up enables spectators to see the process behind the creation of fashion imagery online. A number of renowned designers are filmed via a webcam whilst creating unique pieces known as ‘SHOWstudio Originals’. These pieces are sold with the existing artifacts and prints.
